Implementation of a woodland management programme for a private client across a 20-year unattended, 12-acre woodland comprising of commercially planted coniferous woodland, mixed broadleaf, heavily suppressed with rhododendron, and a series of 12 interlocking ponds.

The client’s objectives were to create a healthy, ecologically active woodland with room for walks and re-exposure of the ponds.

Scope of works included:

• Clearance of rhododendron and scrubby understory/vegetation throughout using robotic mulchers and excavator mounted fixed tooth mulchers.
• Thinning works to commercial plantations.
• Removal of lower quality trees mechanically and by hand to create space for replanting.
• Chipping of branch material and removal from site.
• Extraction and sale of roundwood timber on behalf of client.
• Removal of stumps throughout.
• Re-profiling of pond edges.
• Creation of footbridges.
